About This Course

O-12 Comparative Studies in Teacher Education -2 is the second of a two course set. The course will draw primarily on empirical understandings of teacher education across the states of India and in different country contexts and use conceptual frameworks of comparative education. The course will engage participants in exploring these practical experiences, theories and tools to gain broader perspectives on teacher education, through an understanding of socio-historic contexts and international development that inform and shape policies and practices in country contexts.

Course Objectives

  • Explore current approaches and trends in comparative and international education.
  • Develop an understanding of what defines comparative education as a field of study, including its methodology and major concepts.
  • Acquire comparative education research skills, including the development of research questions that can be approached comparatively and the methods best suited for different type of questions.

Who can join the course?

  • Must be a teacher educator.
  • Has paid the fees for the course or the programme.

Requirements

Teacher Educator will need to have access to computing devices with connectivity for the entire duration of the programme.

Mythili Ramchand

Mythili Ramchand

Mythili Ramchand was the Director of RV Educational Consortium, Bangalore from 2005 to 2018. She worked as science teacher educator and a high school physics teacher prior to 2005.

Mythili has led a number of collaborative projects and research studies in Karnataka. She has worked on initial teacher education curriculum and developed reading and related materials and been involved in capacity enhancement programmes for faculty of education. Currently she anchors a Post Graduation Certification programme for faculty of education offered by TISS.

Mythili has offered her consultancy to a number of organisations and been in the panel of committees on teacher education curriculum renewal and reforms. She is currently a member of the Institutional Advisory Board of Regional Institute of Education, NCERT, Mysore.

Poonam Sharma

Poonam Sharma

Poonam Sharma is a teacher educator and ethnographer. Before joining her current position she has worked as a teacher educator in pre-service teacher education as well as NGO sector. She began her career as a primary school teacher.

Her Ph D research was a year-long ethnographic work focusing on the educational experiences of children in the context of the family-school relationship. The study was based in a town close to Delhi. The study brought together the new sociological perspectives on children/childhood and ethnographic expertise for understanding families and schools. Her research was supported by the NCERT (National Council of Educational Research and Training, New Delhi) Doctoral fellowship award 2011.

She received DAAD Student Exchange Program Fellowship for the year 2010 (Desutscher Akadmischer Austausch Dienst, 2010).
