About This Course

This course provides learners with an overview of the socio-political landscape of EdTech, the evolution of the intellectual history of the field; formulation, reception, resistance, and evaluation of EdTech policies and experiments; the subsequent dialogues, and public debates it has generated in India and the world.

It aims to expose students to the multiple adoption models prevalent in the global and national landscape and equip learners to explore, situate, and critically evaluate the evidentiary base of the multiple adoption models to have their intended results across different socio, economic, and cultural realities.

With the emphasis on inculcating a deep understanding of the complexities of the field, learners are equipped to engage with the hope, hype, realities, and concerns surrounding the key ideas in the space (including but not limited to AI, big data, platformization, adaptive technology, and questions around equity, privacy, regulations, and ethics)

Course Objectives:

By the end of this course learners will be able to:

  • Reflect on the EdTech policy considerations.
  • Engage and map the role and social interaction between different policy actors and their sources of legitimacy.
  • Situate different policy adoption models and situate the context-specific enablers and barriers in their use.
  • Critically examine EdTech policy evaluation.

Dripthi

Ms. Dhipthi Dhona

Dhipthi is Project manager - State Reform, Tamil Nadu at The Education Alliance. She oversees & steers the implementation of visionary projects aimed at transforming public education in Tamil Nadu reporting to the Commissioner of School Education. Dhipthi holds a Master's degree in Education, specialising in Policy and EdTech from Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai. During the course of her graduate degree she pursued research internships with organisations such as UNESCO, Oxford Policy Advisory Group, Aide et Action International NGO, and TISS. Dhipthi’s political cartoons and writings have been a constant feature in both her undergraduate and graduate college magazines. She actively volunteers with youth collectives working towards climate and social justice.

Amina

Dr. Amina Charania Lead MA in Education & Teaching, Associate Professor, CETE, TISS

Dr. Amina Charania is an Associate Professor at Centre of Excellence in Teacher Education at Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS). In the year 2010, she earned her doctoral degree at Iowa State University, USA, specializing in curriculum and instructional technology. She leads research, field action and teacher professional development programmes focusing on Constructivist teaching and learning with technology at scale. These interventions have brought national and international accolades. Over the years, she has published and presented her research and practice in some of the leading journals internationally. Her research has provided evidence based frameworks and policy guidelines for teachers’ agency, pedagogical integration of technologies, and learners as producers concept for adolescents in government schools across multiple geographies. She has also served as a member of the Committee for Mentoring Mission, National Education Policy, anchored by NCTE 2021-22.

Uchita

Ms Uchita Bakshani

Uchita holds a Master’s degree in Education with a specialization in ICT and New Media in education. She has been working in the field of education for over 7 years in various capacities. She is currently working as a research and monitoring coordinator for the TELTA-21 project at CETE, TISS. She has also been co-teaching the course on teaching and learning with technology for the MA in Education and B.Ed/M.Ed programs at TISS. Uchita has also actively participated in many International events where she has presented her research.
