About This Course

This is a practice-based online course that will help teachers develop both a critical awareness and a deeper understanding of the role of technology in teaching and learning, provide hands on experience of designing lesson integrating technology in curriculum and pedagogy for students to improve understanding of subjects and develop higher order thinking skills. The course will also explore distance technologies and various pedagogies for active and collaborative learning.

Course Objectives

  • Understand and appreciate constructivist approaches to learning, and the role of technology in constructing meaningful learning experiences for the students
  • Explore various technology applications; and critically evaluate their use and its role in meaningful learning
  • Create lessons and activities integrating technology to create an active learning environment for students
  • Explore distance technologies for blended online teaching and learning

Who can do this course?

Teachers and educators associated with and teaching primary, middle and secondary level students and having access to at least 5-10 students can undertake this course.

Course Outline

Unit 1: ICT and Learning

This unit will delve into the concept of constructivist learning approaches, in making learning authentic, connected and meaningful to one’s context. It will enable teachers to identify pedagogies that will lead to active engagement of the learner and relate the ideas of constructivism to commonly used technology-based learning activities in their classroom.

Unit 2: 21st Century Skills & its relevance in school education

In this unit, teachers will gain an in-depth understanding of the 21-century skills framework, the concept of 4Cs and its relevance in school education. This will enable teachers to design technology integrated learning activities for students in a classroom in relation to 4Cs, so that the 21st century skills can be developed and nurtured among school students..

Unit 3: Integrating ICT in curriculum and pedagogy

This unit will enable learners to critically examine the role of technology in student learning activities, select appropriate technology devices/applications, and plan activities to integrate ICT with curriculum and pedagogy. Moreover distance technologies for blended and online teaching and learning will be explored for active and collaborative learning..

My research interests are in the areas of teacher professional development for technology integration (TPACK), and student use of technology within a constructionist approach.

I have been a part of Integrated approach to Technology in Education (ITE) since 2013 and has been associated with TISS ITE Resource Team since 2016. I have also been managing the Certificate in ICT & Education for School Teachers along with providing monitoring and capacity building support for on ground implementation of ITE in government schools and madrasahs as a member of the resource team.

I have over 18 years’ experience working in the development, academic and corporate sectors, including research and programme implementation in mathematics, technology, and teacher education, as well as software development. My role in CLIx included strategic coordination of the overall curriculum development effort. II actively contributed to the curriculum development and research in the areas of Mathematics and digital literacy.
