About This Course

Today technology has advanced enormously and came a long way, in terms of affordances, innovations, and capabilities and every field is taking advantage of technology for various purposes to reduce the efforts, time, improve productivity, etc. Education is no exception to this but has to go a long way to make maximum out of ICT applications. As its need for time, everyone who is working in education, in teaching-learning processes needs to know the affordances of technology, has to adopt competencies and skills to use its daily activities and processes wherever most applicable and relevant.

The course is designed mainly considering schools ICT labs and the school teachers across the domain, lab-in-charge, students with interest in computers, who may or may not have a technical background. This course is intended to enhance the learners' skills to handle the basic computer lab setup and maintenance. After taking the course learners will become independent to use the lab in daily teaching-learning processes and activities involved in the ICT lab by taking care of regular and frequent basic issues that are part of the setup as they will be having an understanding of the lab setup and peripherals used.

The course has three main sections as knowing hardware and role, setting up basic minimal software and hands-on activities (with reference material) around these two sections with assessment components to revise and enhance the understanding as the course progresses. The course outline is as follows:

    1. Introduction and usage of ICT

    1. Hardware Components
    2. Networking Components and Setup
  3. Unit 3:
    1. Softwares
    2. Operating Systems: Types and Installation
    3. Browsers and URLs
    4. IP address and assigning
  4. Unit 4:
    1. Issues and Solutions
    2. Troubleshooting and Reporting Issues
    3. Best Practices in ICT

The course is designed by the professionals working in the lab setup for more than 5+ years in the field and otherwise, and is prepared to best suit the context as close as possible to ICT labs in the schools. The course will flow with activities with context and in the course of action understand the peripheral, its role and usage, processes to install and use the software, understand basic issues that may arise frequently, and their causes and solutions.

Prerequisites

  • Any basic knowledge about the computer will help to work on the advanced activities of the course and help in better understanding.
  • Availability of basic infrastructure such as computers with least 1:2 computer: learner ratio if face to face workshop,
  • Individuals taking the course online should have at least a pair of computers or provision to create such setup virtually.
  • To have access and handling permission to hardware and software to perform the hands-on activities and progress along with the flow. The references are provided wherever required.
